At Solar Energies UK, our government-approved,
MCS accredited solar thermal team have already carried out thousands of solar installations. Their work is fast, inexpensive and carried out to the highest of standards. We are proud to be able to declare 100% satisfaction from all of our customers, who have significantly reduced their energy bills and their carbon footprint by using solar energy in their homes or businesses.
How Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems Work

There are several components to a solar thermal hot water system. There's the solar collectors, or solar panels, which we put on your roof. Inside your property we will also install the heat transfer system as well as the twin coil cylinder for hot water.
As the diagram below illustrates, cold water is pumped to the roof to be heated by the sun in the solar panels. This heated water is then taken to the boiler for any additional heating before leaving as normal to go to your taps and radiators. The use of your normal boiler is therefore not eliminated, but by utilizing solar energy it does bring down the amount of energy the boiler needs to expend by a significant amount. In fact the solar panels will now provide you with up to
70% of your heating requirements.
Although the solar panels are able to generate more heat in sunnier conditions, as you would expect, they are able to produce quite a substantial amount of heat even on cold days so it will be of great benefit to you
all year round.
Tailored Design and Installation

As each property is different, each solar installation will be equally unique. After a quick survey of your property a design can be produced which will illustrate the best way to set up your solar thermal system. Considerations will include the direction your roof is facing (south is the best, but east or west facing roofs are also viable), the kind of hot water system you are currently using and the budget you have for the project. It is therefore very important to get the most suitable system for your particular circumstances.
Once the plans have been completed and you are happy to go ahead, the actual installation for the domestic thermal system will generally take
1-3 days.
Most manufacturers provide a warranty of up to 10 years. Ask your installation company for further information to ensure you get the cover which suits you best.
Due to recent changes in the law,
planning permission is no longer required for solar installations in the majority of cases, although if you live in a Conservation Area, World Heritage site, or in a Listed Building, planning permission will still be required.

Although the Renewable Heat Incentive is introduced in the UK for domestic users in summer 2013, solar thermal installations carried out prior to the launch will be even more profitable. You will literally be
making money for all of the energy you produce with your solar panels. This will only apply to solar installations performed by MCS accredited solar installers, such as Solar Energies UK.
